| I never give much direction in portrait sessions. It's much more interesting to see what people will do with a camera pointed at them. Actors respond in a variety of ways, ranging from blank stares to mimed psychodrama. Bonham Carter obviously fell into the latter camp. A tiny woman, she shrank into the armchair I placed in front of a window and went through the gamut of poses, from coy smiles to confident gazes into the lens to this faintly tragic attitude. |
